Hynes Home Improvements has been installing high quality and beautiful roofs for the past 40 years. We believe in a customer first attitude and strive to satisfy each and every customer. All work is carefully looked after by not only the foremans, but the estimator and owners as well. We have won several awards in the roofing industry and have obtained the GAF Certificate of Excellence for many years, while still stressing the importance of continuing education in our industry with all employees.

    "Hynes did a front porch repair and renewal job for me. They did not install the railing product (Trex Transcend) listed in the contract specifically and for which I paid an upgrade charge. They won't say what they installed, but it looks exactly like the pictures of Veranda railings on the Home Depot website, a much less expensive product. Hynes initially made an offer with a price, showing a picture of Trex Select and stating they were quoting Trex Select. We traded emails and texts where I said I preferred the higher grade Trex Transcend. Hynes sent another offer with a price increase of $1290, which listed Trex Transcend specifically and listed an upgrade charge of $1290. I agreed to this contract and made all payments on time. After the job was done and I had signed off, I realized they didn't use Trex Transcend. I challenged them and they said I hadn't agreed to or paid for the upgrade. Not true. I signed and made payments per a contract that named Trex Transcend and had a price increase exactly matching the $1290 upgrade charge. After Hynes ignored all my attempts to follow up, I wrote to them asking for a little over $3000 to replace the railing with Trex Transcend or for them to replace it themselves. They ignored me. I submitted a claim in small claims court for the money to have the railing replaced. Before the hearing the Hynes lawyer pulled me aside to see if we could reach an agreement, but led with a brand new claim that I had not paid the $487 fee for the building permit. Not true. I did all the work and payment for the permit myself; drawings, application, payment; all hand delivered by me. I have the check. I explained this but the lawyer was looking for a receipt then and there. Hynes never offered me a penny. I lost in court; maybe because I was asking for total replacement, maybe because I went without a lawyer and Hynes and their lawyer successfully created enough doubt and confusion so the judge couldn't decide in my favor. Here's what I said in my final email to Hynes (with the name of the estimator removed). This message is for Michelle. I have received a notice of judgment from district court with a disposition of Judgment for Defendant, Hynes Home Improvement. I do not intend to appeal in court. I can only appeal to you. Here is how I was treated by Hynes Home Improvement: Hynes offered to install Trex Select in a decking and rails package. Hynes offered to install Trex Transcend in a decking and rails package for $1290 more. After I accepted the offer and made all payments, Hynes installed something else. I believe it is Home Depot's Veranda. My estimate of the difference in cost between Trex Transcend and Home Depot Veranda for six sections of railing, with tax, is $1,153.53. What am I to think of the Hynes family and the Hynes company? You just do this to people and keep the money? To paraphrase Lyndon Johnson, I come to you with a heavy heart. By the way, your lawyer was saying to me before the hearing that Hynes paid for the building permit. I definitely paid for the permit. I can't find the receipt but I have a bank statement showing my check in the amount of $487.00 paid to Lower Merion Township, dated 6/22/22 with "Bldg Permit" in the memo. I has the number 446467 hand-written at the top, which may be the permit request number. If Hynes paid $487 to the township, it was paid twice and you should go get your money back.
